ASID Board of Directors


Sari Graven, ASID 

Sari Graven, ASID, President

Graven is currently director of Program and Resource Development with Seattle University's Facilities Services Department. Prior to working with Seattle University, Graven worked at Haworth, Industry Partner of ASID, and Callison Architecture. Graven holds a bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University, a master's degree in organizational psychology from Antioch University, as well as two graduate certificates. A recipient of several ASID chapter awards, she also served on the ASID Board of Directors from 2002 – 2004.


Michael Thomas, FASID, CAPS, President Elect 

Michael A. Thomas, FASID, CAPS, President Elect

Michael Thomas, FASID, CAPS, is a much-recognized expert on aging-in-place and universal design issues, is president of The Design Collective Group Inc., in Jupiter, Fla. He has been a longtime volunteer with the Society, at both chapter and national levels. Among other chapter positions, Thomas served as president of the Florida South chapter in 1998. At the national level, he has been member and chair of the Aging in Place Council, and served as member of the Communication and Knowledge Resources Council, as counselor for the Society's strategic planning process and on various task forces. More recently, Thomas was the Chapter Support Team Representative to the ASID Board, followed by a two-year term as board member at large. Thomas is a frequent speaker, on behalf of ASID and other organizations, on aging-in-place and universal design issues. He recently authored, with Drue Lawlor, FASID, Residential Design for Aging in Place.


Bruce Brigham, FASID, Past President

Bruce Brigham, FASID, Past President

An award winning designer and dedicated ASID leader, Brigham practices retail design and brand development from his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He is principal of Retail Clarity Consulting, and maintains clients in the Unites States, Hong Kong and mainland China. Prior to his consultancy Bruce was principal, for 9 years, of Planet Retail Studios, an award-winning design-prototype and branding firm based in Seattle.  Bruce's work has been published in numerous magazines, writing extensively on the subjects of retail and lighting design, brand development and ASID issues. Brigham has been an active ASID member for more than 20 years, serving with the Washington State chapter on the board and as president, twice serving on the ASID Board of Directors, and serving as member and chair of a number of national task forces and committees.


Stephanie Clemons, Ph.D., FASID, FIDEC

Since 2006, Clemons has served as a professor in the Department of Design and Merchandising, Interior Design. She holds a degree in Human Environment and Design/Interior Design from Michigan State University, a master's in Housing and Interiors from Utah State University and a Doctor of Philosophy, School of Education from Colorado State University. Along with numerous awards and publications, she has served as a board member and reviewer for the Journal of Interior Design, a site visitor for the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and president of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and its Foundation.


Deborah Lloyd Forrest, FASID 

Deborah Lloyd Forrest, FASID

An ASID Designer of Distinction, Deborah Lloyd Forrest, FASID, is one of the country’s top hospitality designers. Her work has been published in Hospitality Design, Architectural Digest and Interior Design magazines, to name just a few. A longtime Society member and volunteer, Forrest has served on several national committees, most recently chairing the ASID Awards Committee. Since 2004, Forrest has been honored as a member of Hospitality Design magazine’s Platinum Circle.


Shirley Eaken Hammond, FASID 

Shirley Eaken Hammond, FASID

A Society member for more than 25 years, Shirley Eaken Hammond, FASID, has been particularly active in legislation and education issues at the national and chapter levels. She has served ASID as member of the Education and Training Advisory Council, Legislative and Codes Advisory Council and the National Code Committee, as well as chairing similar committees for the Alabama chapter. Hammond has been active on several Alabama state boards and has been member and chair of numerous NCIDQ committees, including a term on the Council's board. This past year, Hammond was honored with NCIDQ's Louis Tregre Award.


Charrisse Johnston, ASID, LEED AP, CID

Charrisse Johnston, ASID, LEED AP, CID

Before pursuing a degree and career in interior design, Johnston earned degrees in behavioral sciences, management and marketing from Johns Hopkins University and Columbia Business School, and enjoyed a successful career in strategic planning on Wall Street. As an interior design student, Johnston was president of the ASID UCLA Extension Chapter and valedictorian of her class. Johnston is now a  corporate office designer at Gensler's Santa Monica Workplace Studio. She served on the ASID Student Advisory Council from 2006 – 2008.


Jessica Mahne, ASIDP

A passionate advocate for students, Chapter Support Team Representative to the Board, Jessica Mahne, ASID, has been an active member of the Wisconsin chapter, receiving several presidential citations and the chapter’s Crystal Star Award. Currently interior design program director at Madison Area Technical College, Mahne also serves as faculty advisor for the school’s ASID student chapter. Prior to becoming an educator, Mahne was in-house corporate designer and construction project manager for American Family Insurance.


Lynn Lorch Metz, ASID, RID, IIDA, LEED AP 

Lynn Lorch Metz, ASID, RID, IIDA, LEED AP

For the past two years, Industry Partner Representative to the Board, Lynn Lorch Metz, ASID, RID, IIDA, LEED AP, has served as architectural and design director (central region) for Haworth Inc., Industry Partner of ASID. Prior to joining Haworth, Metz was associate principal/director of interiors for F & S Partners Inc. She is the recipient of several design awards form both ASID and AIA, among others.


Tim Schelfe, ASID 

Tim Schelfe, ASID

Tim Schelfe, ASID, brings more than 10 years of experience with the Carolinas chapter—one of the Society's largest. He has served consecutive terms on the chapter board since 2004, including a term as president. Prior to that, Schelfe served as legislative and STEP chairperson. He has been honored with 17 ASID Carolinas Design Specialty Awards for his work in residential, commercial and hospitality design.


 

Rachelle Schoessler Lynn, ASID, CID, LEED AP

Schoessler Lynn is considered by many to be a pioneer in sustainable design. A nationally recognized speaker on ecologically responsible design, she co-founded the USGBC chapter in her area, and in 2007 with her business partner, David Loehr, AIA, AICP, LEED AP, launched Studio 2030, a Minneapolis design firm based on the principle that “environmental and economic objectives are not mutually exclusive.” Schoessler Lynn is a frequent presenter on sustainable design issues at NeoCon® and other industry events, is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota, and a member of Iowa State University's College of Design Advisory Board.
